Sample 1

There are many big or small companies operating in my country. Here I would like to talk about a big company which is situated close to my hometown. Its name is “Start Impact”. It is a shoe making company, which manufactures leather as well as Sports shoes. They also make flyers, sandals, Leather-bags, wallets.

20 years ago, it was a small business but over time, this company grew and became a renowned brand in Punjab in the field of shoe making.

The whole manufacturing is automatic; they have advanced machines which can make thousands of pairs of shoes per day. This company manufactures almost 50,000 pair of shoes per day and capacity is much more. They have 10 retail showrooms, one in my hometown and others in big cities of Punjab. The factory outlets are so well designed that they directly compete with other big brands of sports shoe makers like Reebok, adidas.

They employ more than 5000 workers. While most of workers come in labour, a few work in management of the company. So no doubt, this company has become a source of employment for hundreds of workers. Some of my known people work in this company and according to them; director of company is a very nice and humble person. The working environment is not stressful for employees.

The company is expanding its operation. They recently opened a sister-company in Vietnam. They have opened retail outlets in some foreign markets also. The management of the company is ambitious and they are expanding their range of shoes also. They have also entered into education business and recently, opened a school. It is spreaded over a large area and it has become famous in the city in just two years.

I am interested in this company because this company has worked so hard and it grew from a very small business to a very large one. Moreover, it is generating employment for local workers. Also, this company is from my hometown.

Although I am interested in this company, but I have no desire to work with them as I have different plans for my career.

So this is the company that I am interested in.

Sample 2

Thank you for this opportunity to let me talk about a company in my hometown that employs a sizeable number of people from the locality. This is a chair manufacturing company and it has been manufacturing chairs for a long time. The company employs a good number of local people from the city to manufacture various types of chairs and other accessories to decorate chairs and tables in my hometown. This is a smart cue card topic and I am really happy to have this.

Around 900 people work here and most of them are workers. In fact, the job of manufacturing chair involves a huge number of hands to complete the process. Almost all the people of this locality are involved in producing chairs and they work around the day in the company factory. The majority of the people belong to the working class while some of them are working as high officials in the company. Actually, the area I live in is densely populated and most of the people are not that much educated. As a result, they are unable to manage a higher job for them.

High school graduation is a must to get a job with this company and with higher education, anyone can apply for some other positions than that of the worker. But if someone can show some extraordinary skills, educational barriers are relaxed for them. The authority employs them without a second thought and considers them as the asset for the company. The salary offered by this company is also higher and everyone working here is pleased.

I would be interested to work here if I get a chance. Actually, all the works are equal and contribute to building society. So, I do consider the job of a chair company worker is respectable. Moreover, the benefits of this company are also attractive and everyone loves their job here. I am currently doing my bachelor degree in Business Administration and would love to get a relevant administrative job in this company.

Part 3 – Follow up Questions

1. What are the differences between a big company and a small company?

There are many differences between big and small companies. To begin with, big companies offer bigger pay packages than small companies. Secondly, these companies give many perks and bonuses from time to time. These companies give benefits like health insurance and travel allowance. Another big advantage of big companies is that it is a status symbol to work in these companies. Furthermore, they provide opportunities to travel overseas. Moreover, in a big company hands on training is provided to all new workers. On the other hand, in a small company, everybody knows everybody. You are not part of a big crowd as in a big company. If you do some good work, you are applauded for it.

2. Are there many big companies in your country?

Yes, there are. India is a fast developing country. There are many Indian companies, which are very big such as Tata, Mahindra, Godrej, Reliance, Videocon, Onida and so on. There are also many multinational giants which have opened branches in India, such as Samsung, LG, Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and so on.

3. What are the good things about working for a big company?

Same as answer 1

4. How can a small company grow big?

Small companies can do so in many ways. They can work hard, employ skilled workers, focus on quality and employ good marketing strategies.

5. Should big companies donate more to charities?

Yes, they should. I believe that anyone who has enough should help the needy on humanitarian grounds. Many big companies help the NGOs and NPOs. This is a win-win situation for both. When they get publicity for their charity work, they are getting advertisement for free.

6. Should big companies be punished more seriously if they break the law?

No, they should not. Law should be the same for all – big as well as small companies. Usually, big companies have big connections. So, they try to get away with their wrong doings. This also should not happen. Punishment should be equally serious for all law offenders.

7. Are there any big companies in your hometown?

Yes, there are three big companies in my hometown. There is the JCT mail which is a textile mill. Then there is a Sugar mill and a starch mill.

8. Is it difficult to get a promotion in a large company?

Yes, it is really difficult to get a promotion in a big company. In a big company you are part of a big crowd and there are many people in the queue to get a promotion. So it’s very difficult to outdo all of them and get a promotion.
